Teton County Fair Concert featuring Robert Earl Keen

with WYO

Wednesday, July 25 • Grassy Arena at the Teton County Fairgrounds
Gates 5 pm / Music 6:30 pm

The Teton County Board of Commissioners are pleased to feature Robert Earl Keen at the 2018 Teton County Fair Concert, with special guest WYO.

Robert Earl Keen at Teton County Fair

“The road goes on forever …”

It’s not always easy to sum up a career – let alone a life’s ambition – so succinctly, but those five words from Robert Earl Keen‘s calling-card anthem just about do it. You can complete the lyric with the next five words – the ones routinely shouted back at Keen by thousands of fans a night (“and the party never ends!”) – just to punctuate the point with a flourish, but it’s the part about the journey that gets right to the heart of what makes Keen tick. Some people take up a life of playing music with the goal of someday reaching a destination of fame and fortune; but from the get-go, Keen just wanted to write and sing his own songs, and to keep writing and singing them for as long as possible.

“I always thought that I wanted to play music, and I always knew that you had to get some recognition in order to continue to play music,” Keen says. “But I never thought of it in terms of getting to be a big star. I thought of it in terms of having a really, really good career and writing some good songs, and getting onstage and having a really good time.”

Now three-decades on from the release of his debut album – with eighteen other records to his name, thousands of shows under his belt and still no end in sight to the road ahead – Keen remains as committed to and inspired by his muse as ever.

WYO at Teton County Fair

WYO

WYO is a rock band originating from Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Taking inspiration from the cinematic landscapes and epic mountains of his upbringing, singer-songwriter Andy Sorge utilizes an organic instrument palette to create the soundscape that is WYO.

After attending film school in New York, Andy met multi-instrumentalist, Scott McKay Gibson, and the two began composing music for documentaries, commercials, and short films together in Wyoming. Perhaps this explains the reason that WYO’s music has a way of evoking such striking visuals that stir the imagination. The pair began delving into Andy’s original songs that would soon become their debut album Untamed. They teamed up with veteran  Los Angeles-based producer, Brad Wood (Smashing Pumpkins, Pete Yorn, Ben Lee…), to provide a fresh ear to finalize their work. Guitarist Pelle Hillstrom recorded on the album, and is now playing shows with the band.

Serving as an introduction to their world, this project embodies the search for a place that’s alive and wild. It’s an endeavour that deals with love, loss, and constant exploration. It’s a tale of reconciling city life with the Wild West of Wyoming.

Glen David Andrews at JacksonHoleLive!Glen David Andrews

In a city whose spirit world is as old as Mother Africa’s children, Glen David Andrew, a native son of New Orleans, has made a compelling case for his own deliverance.

Redemption (Louisiana Red Hot Records), Glen’s critically acclaimed new release, is his balm after a very personal storm. It’s about acceptance and forgiveness, about rebirth and renewal. “This is a record about my journey back from the living dead.”
Born in the historic Tremé neighborhood Glen and his older brother, Derrick Tabb of the Rebirth Brass Band, along with their younger cousin Troy “Trombone Shorty” Andrews, soaked up life’s musical lessons by learning the history of the brass band tradition from iconic figures like Tuba Fats. Andrews says. “Jesus was born in a manger, I was born in a second line.” He was blowing a joyful noise by the time he was 12 and practiced his musicianship and showmanship with the city’s most energetic brass bands, from New Birth and Lil’ Rascals to Rebirth and Treme.

That presence and sweetness have long endeared Andrews to audiences at his regular gigs at such New Orleans clubs as dba and Three Muses. In recent years he began making waves as a headliner at the world’s biggest block party – the annual New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, as well as many other festivals and legendary clubs around the US, including The Lincoln Center, Voodoo Music Experience, Chicago Folk and Roots Festival, Houston International Festival, Joe’s Pub, House of Blues Nola, Tipitina’s, American Jazz Museum KC.

Benyaro at JacksonHoleLiveBenyaro

Benyaro — the indie roots project of a seclusive Jackson Hole, WY musician who’s worked with such artists as Gary Clark Jr., Brett Dennen, and Shovels & Rope — announces the release of his third original full-length album, One Step Ahead of Your Past (September 8, Mohinga Music). Produced with Danny Kadar (Avett Brothers, My Morning Jacket) and recorded at the legendary Echo Mountain Recording with Leif Routman on upright bass and Brian Geltner on drums, ‘One Step Ahead of Your Past’ is “a deeply personal collection of tunes from a period in which I became a husband and a father,” with songs that explore the profound, vibrant, and mundane with humility and humor. Multi-instrumentalist Musser composed the thirteen punk-Americana tracks that comprise the record.

The live show features Musser and Routman doing what they do best: rocking hard and making more sound than you’ve ever seen two live musicians make.

Anderson East

with Canyon Kids

Sunday, August 19 • 6 p.m.

Anderson East at JacksonHoleLive

Anderson East is the humble type — the sort of man who chalks up his success to loads of good fortune, b. But the singer-songwriter has earned his accolades: one of music’s most compelling young artists, East is an unflinching and inimitable talent. Best exemplified on his breakout 2015 debut album, Delilah, the Alabama-native wields an unwavering and potent, ever-husky voice. And as seen on standout tracks including “Satisfy Me” and “Devil In Me,” he’s able to effortlessly spin tales of tumult and triumph in equal measure. That’s of course to say nothing of the brute force with which the man performs — fiery and forceful, as much a wily preacher as a patient poet, East has become one of music’s must-see live act.

Having recently completed a forthcoming new album with producer Dave Cobb at Nashville’s famed RCA Studio A, and preparing to release its first single later this summer, East is hitting the road this summer with Chris Stapleton on the singer’s “All-American Road Show.” What NPR Music called a ” …eclectic, fully formed debut album,” Delilah was East’s launching pad. But he’s hardly slowed down since: over the previous two years, the gritty-blues and-soul-toasting singer toured relentlessly. In the process, via his own sold out headline shows and from serving as support for monumental artists including Sturgill Simpson and Jason Isbell, he’s amassed a dedicated, organic fan base.

And in addition to making his television debut on Late Night with Seth Meyers and appearing on Daryl Hall’s Live from Daryl’s House, East has also lent his talents to several notable projects. He’s been featured on Dave Cobb’s Southern Family compilation, contributed songs to both Brandi Carlile’sCarlisle’s Cover Stories LP and crafted the original song “What Would It Take” for the Fifty Shades Darker soundtrack.

Canyon Kids at JacksonHoleLive!Canyon Kids

Simon & Garfunkel, Lennon & McCartney – These artist embody the power of two male voices joined in song and artistic vision. So it is with Elledge & Nichols, whose vocal blend is like several coats of varnish on a fine wooden boat. With some high & lonesome twang, a steady beat, and harmonized croon, they sing songs that evoke the American West – both where it has been and where it’s headed.

It is this sound that has garnered Canyon Kids supporting slots with some of the country’s best national touring acts, including Robert Randolph & The Family Band, Moon Taxi, G Love & The Special Sauce, Galactic, Hayes Carll, New Madrid, Lukas Nelson, and the Infamous Stringdusters.

Blitzen Trapper

with Brother Wolf

Sunday, June 24 • 6 p.m.

Blitzen Trapper at JacksonHoleLive

Blitzen Trapper is a Portland, Oregon-based experimental country/folk/rock band. Over the course of 18 years and nine full-length albums, Blitzen Trapper has crafted one of the more compelling and varied catalogs in contemporary rock and roll. Indeed, singer and guitarist Eric Earley, who is also the band’s primary songwriter, is possessed of a musical and lyrical sensibility that is remarkably deep and wide; big ideas and universal emotions are wrung from the seemingly plainspoken details of small-screen and often highly personal stories, and set to music that reaches way, way back to old-timey folk and bluegrass, travels through everything from country, psychedelia and soul to progressive, garage and metal, indulges gloriously in the classic rock of the 70s and 80s, and makes occasional side trips into hip-hop, skewed pop and noisy freakouts.

The band currently operates as a quintet, with Eric Earley (guitar/harmonica/vocals/keyboard), Erik Menteer (guitar/keyboard), Brian Adrian Koch (drums/vocals/harmonica), Michael Van Pelt (bass), and Marty Marquis (guitar/keyboards/vocals/melodica). Blitzen Trapper just released its ninth studio album, Wild and Reckless, which Eric Earley has described as a companion piece to their 2008 breakthrough album, Furr.

D.J. WIlliams’ Shots Fired with Salt Petal

Sunday, August 5 • 6 p.m.

D.J. Williams Shots Fired at JacksonHoleLive

Celebrate 89.1 KHOL’s 10th Anniversary with a co-bill featuring D.J. Williams’ Shots Fired and Salt Petal.

Admission: $5 donation to KHOL and $5 for adults to JacksonHoleLive! — kids 17 and under are free

Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe guitarist, D.J. Williams, brings Shots Fired — his notorious Denver dance party — to Wyoming for the first time this August; one-night-only and only at JacksonHoleLive.

With Shots Fired, Williams has assembled an all-star roster of the nation’s leading funk-rock musicians, including members of Dave Matthews Band, Lenny Kravitz, Slightly Stoopid, Trey Anastasio Band, Lyrics Born, Soulive, Greyboy Allstars, and many others, switching the exact lineup around every time so as to ensure that every Shots Fired show is a one-of-a-kind throw-down that you just can’t get from anything other than music made in the moment, for the moment.

From the moment the band’s first single, “She’s No Good,” dropped into rotation on SiriusXM radio this past spring, Shots Fired has been designated as a 2018 “heat-seaker” and “artist to watch.”  Their instant appeal comes down to Williams’ songwriting, matched live by his incendiary guitar solos and accented by the Shots Fired horns.  Given D.J.’s penchant for topping off raw beats with refined melodies, Shots Fired is best served on the rocks and on the dance floor.

Just don’t let D.J.’s name confuse you, because this guitarist is laying down grooves any “DJ” would love to sample.
